For the last few days, I’ve been reading Penelope Trunk’s career advice blog. I only discovered her work recently, and I’m glad I did – she writes some superb posts, with a wisdom I can only dream of being blessed with.
The advice I’m going to quote here is obvious (isn’t most?), but it gave me a real lightbulb moment. If you’re one of those people who are guilty of trying to turn hobbies into a career, consider this:
One of the most liberating moments in career planning is to realize that you don’t have to get paid to do your favorite activity in order to be happy. Get rid of the idea that the most important thing to a worker is work, and you free yourself to make work just one portion of a fulfilling life.
